Students explore a diverse set of art media in both two and three-dimensional forms, creating their own musical instruments. They will uncover many other elements such as color, sound, scale, and functionality that play important roles in making an instrument to enhance its visual and operational qualities.

Watercolor Underworlds

Explore underwater creatures from the familiar sea turtle to the exotic vampire squid. Students will be exposed to a variety of seascapes and their inhabitants, which will become the main source of inspiration for these projects. Students will learn a variety of watercolor painting techniques as they create their own underwater scene!

Pop Art Painting

Pop artists take the simple and common everyday item or image and raise it to fine art. In this class, students will observe and recreate commonplace objects by taking them outside of their typical context to imbue the objects with new meaning. Emphasis will be placed on color, line, and symbolism, and scale.

Dino Sculpting

Students will examine different types of dinosaurs to create their own 3-dimensional rendition – focusing on scale, proportion and texture. From high and low relief sculpture to free standing sculpture in the round, students will learn the diverse styles and methods of working with the versatile medium of clay.

Drawing Nature: Into the Wild Woods

Artists from Claude Monet to contemporary artist Andy Goldsworthy have used nature as their main inspiration throughout their art making processes. Students will create drawings using a variety of dry media from observation.
